“Over 15 years ago I used to play shows at Strange Matter, Plaza Bowl, Canal Club, Alley Kats and a bunch of other places that no longer exist and have watched the scene evolve ever since. In that time my role has changed from musician and recording studio intern to venue bartender to venue operator and owner. I’d say if it wasn’t for the RVA music scene, I wouldn’t be where I am today.”

The Camel is a legendary establishment that has hosted talented Richmond musicians since its founding in 2007. Shining a spotlight on upcoming artists and established bands alike, the Camel provides an intimate setting for Richmonders to enjoy the local scene and experience their favorite music in a truly special way. As its new sole proprietor, Matt Hansen uses his industry expertise and love of all things music to further the venue’s legacy.
